DNA Lego Hands-On Learning

March 19, April 9

9:00am-3:00pm

A workshop for High School and Middle School science teachers. Dr. Vandiver has developed an interactive method to teach the basic principles of genetics and molecular biology. She designed LEGO models of molecules to help students understand the molecular processes through tactile experiences. The processes that will be experienced in this workshop are: DNA replication, and the steps in protein synthesis (transcription and translation), and basic protein folding. Teacher participants will divide into small groups and Dr. Vandiver will lead them through activities utilizing LEGO DNA sets. Dr. Lourdes Alemán will speak about the Star BioChem Software she is developing at MIT. These activities can be used to teach biology concepts from middle school to college in a fun and engaging way. Sponsored by Great Bay Community College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Price: $20 Register Early -- Enrollment is limited To register call 603-427-7610 or for more information please contact Community Education Director Chris Lawrence at 603-427-7651 or email: clawrence@ccsnh.edu
